Terms of Service

The agreement that governs your use of ScholarsWorld, written to be read rather than skipped.

Last updated: 27 September 2026

1. Acceptance of these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and ScholarsWorld ("we", "us", or "the platform") and govern your use of the ScholarsWorld website and application (together, the "platform"). By creating an account, purchasing a subscription, or otherwise using the platform, you confirm that you have read and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.

If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation.

2. Eligibility and account rules

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and to hold a subscription.
  • You may maintain only one account. Multiple accounts to influence matching, rankings or results are a breach of these Terms.
  • You must give accurate, current information and keep it updated. Applications submitted on the basis of false or outdated details may be rejected by a scholarship provider, and we may have to close your account as a result.
  • You are responsible for everything done under your account. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think someone else has accessed it.
  • You may not sell, transfer, or lend your account, nor make your account available to anyone else.

3. What the platform does β€” and does not do

ScholarsWorld aggregates scholarship listings, matches them against the profile information you provide, and gives you tools to search, prepare and track applications. That is the extent of the service.

ScholarsWorld is not a scholarship provider, university, government body or immigration adviser. We do not award funding, we do not make admissions decisions, and we do not submit applications on your behalf. Nothing on the platform is an offer of a scholarship.

Any AI-assisted feature β€” such as the application checker or CV assistant β€” produces suggestions, not professional advice. You remain responsible for reviewing, rewriting and verifying anything the tools produce before you send it to a scholarship provider, an admissions committee or an employer. Do not rely on generated text as a substitute for your own judgement.

4. Accuracy of scholarship information

Listings are aggregated from publicly available sources and may be out of date, incomplete, or occasionally wrong. Deadlines, award amounts, eligibility rules and contact details change without notice and are controlled by the provider, not by us. Always confirm the details on the provider's own official website before you invest time or money in an application.

Where a listing is wrong, we will normally correct it once we become aware. But because the source is outside our control, we cannot warrant that every listing is complete, current or error-free.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the platform to:

  • Break any law, or infringe anyone else's rights, including intellectual property, privacy or publicity rights.
  • Submit false, misleading, plagiarised or AI-generated content as your own work in an application, CV or personal statement. This is academic misconduct and we will remove content and close accounts that do it.
  • Scrape, bulk-download, harvest or systematically extract listings, or copy substantial parts of the platform, except where we have given you written permission.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the platform, probe it for vulnerabilities without authorisation, bypass rate limits, or attempt to access another user's account or data.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source of the platform except to the extent the law does not allow us to exclude that right.
  • Use the AI tools to generate unlawful content, or to produce material designed to deceive an admissions committee or assessment body.
  • Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the platform or its content without our written consent.

We may investigate suspected abuse, and we may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms. Where the law allows, we will tell you why and give you a reasonable opportunity to respond.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of everything you upload or write into the platform β€” your CV, personal statements, profile details, notes and documents. We claim no ownership of your content.

You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, transmit and display your content, and to process it in order to operate the features you use β€” including matching, search and the AI tools. That licence lasts as long as your content is on the platform, and it ends when you delete it or close your account, except for copies retained in backups, which we delete on our routine backup cycle. If you close your account and ask us to remove your content, we will do so in line with the retention periods in our Privacy Policy.

You confirm that you have the right to upload everything you upload, and that doing so does not infringe anyone else's rights. You upload at your own risk, and you should not upload anything you need to keep elsewhere only once.

7. Intellectual property

The platform and everything in it β€” including the software, source code, interface, design, layout, graphics, text, the ScholarsWorld name, logos, and the arrangement of the listings β€” are owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the platform for your own personal, non-commercial purposes, in line with these Terms. Nothing else is licensed to you.

Scholarship listings and other factual descriptions belong to their respective providers. We present them under the terms on which we receive them, and they remain subject to those providers' terms. Our trademarks and brand features may not be used without our written permission.

8. Subscriptions, billing and refunds

Some features are part of a paid subscription tier. Subscriptions are billed in advance for the period shown at the point of purchase, through our payment processor, and renew automatically at the then-current price until you cancel. We will remind you before a renewal if we are able to.

You can cancel at any time from your billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and we do not refund the unused part of that period except where the law requires it or the purchase was made in error. Prices may change β€” we will give you reasonable notice before a renewal at a higher price, and if you do not accept it you can cancel before that renewal takes effect.

Prices are shown exclusive of any applicable taxes or duties, which are your responsibility unless we say otherwise. If a charge was made in error, tell us at [email protected] within 30 days and we will investigate and correct it.

If a paid service is unavailable for a substantial period through our failure rather than yours, you may be entitled to a proportionate refund. This is your main financial remedy, and it does not limit any other right you have.

9. Third-party services and links

The platform links to third-party websites, including scholarship providers and universities, and uses third-party services such as Google sign-in and OneSignal notifications. Those services are operated by others, under their own terms and privacy policies, which we do not control. Following a link off ScholarsWorld is at your own risk, and you should review a provider's terms and privacy policy before sending them your personal information.

10. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the platform available continuously, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The platform may be unavailable for maintenance, upgrades, or reasons outside our control, and features may be added, changed, or withdrawn. We may discontinue the platform or a paid tier, and if we do we will give you reasonable notice and refund any prepaid, unused portion of a subscription you bought directly from us.

11. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, the platform and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory. We do not warrant that the platform will be error-free or uninterrupted, that any listing is accurate, complete or current, that matching will produce a scholarship, or that any AI-generated output will be suitable for your purpose. We also do not warrant that the platform is fit for a particular purpose or that results will meet any admissions or funding outcome.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability or right you have that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act or any equivalent legislation, or liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

12. Limitation of liability

Subject to what the next paragraph says, and to the extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the platform is limited to the greater of the amount you actually paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or 50,000 Nigerian Naira. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of opportunity, loss of anticipated savings, or loss or corruption of data β€” even if we were told such loss was possible.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless us, our officers, employees and partners against any claim, demand, loss, damage or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the platform in breach of these Terms, your violation of any third party's rights, or your misrepresentation of your own qualifications or circumstances.

14. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time from your profile settings. We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you materially breach these Terms, if your account has been compromised, if we are required to do so by law, or if keeping the account open would create a security or legal risk. Where practical we will tell you why first and give you a chance to fix the problem.

When your account ends, your access stops and your content is handled as described in section 6 and in our Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination β€” including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law β€” survive it.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Nigeria have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. Before starting proceedings, please raise the problem with us at [email protected] β€” most disputes are resolved without the need for lawyers. If you live in the EU or the UK, this does not take away any mandatory consumer rights or your right to bring proceedings in your own country.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Where a change is material, we will notify you by email or in the product before it takes effect. If you do not accept a material change, you may close your account before it applies and we will refund any prepaid, unused part of a subscription you bought directly from us.
